KRIS BERRY, NOW, VISUAL ALBUM

Kris Berry’s new album named “NOW”, encapsulates a piece of the present, the things that lay bare in front of us, exposed and vulnerable, open to feeling it all, from sharp ache to profound love.

Staying true to that idea, I wanted to create a visual album that would explore all of the expressions of “NOW”. Purposefully turning away from the customary rules of the music video medium, we embraced the slow passage of time and its mundanity, capturing small moments through a succession of ten “tableaux”, each embodying one element, that together would become the pinnacle portrayal of “NOW”.

The album opener: “First Time”, acts as the first layer of a giant fresco, when, still searching and observing, the artist draws the first graphite strokes and lays the skeleton.

BLACK MAGIC, JONASU

I wanted to take a narrative approach to visualise the transcendent desire described in the lyrics and use dance to translate that lust through movement.
The two layers, narrative combined with movement, represent perfectly the in-between state of consciousness that lust can put people into.

AFTERNOON, SNOWAPPLE

Shot on 16mm kodak film, we captured an afternoon in a suburban neighbourhood where everything is just how you would expect it to be: nice neighbours, family gatherings, outside activities. At least on the surface … We show what really happens behind the closed doors and white fences, embracing a world of poetic absurdity, dipping in and out of surrealism.

HOLD ON, KAMAAL WILLIAMS

Shot on 16mm black and white, we deconstructed the format by playing with angles and mirrors, transforming the artists into abstract figures, thus illustrating the distance you can feel towards your reflection and sense of self.

MANIA, MABASSA

“Manias” are the daily habits, the repeated gestures of one’s life.
I wanted to highlight life’s details, make people notice the way they position their hand on the table or how they always give the pepper mill 3 turns when they make their salad sauce. I want them to go to a diner and be unable to focus on the discussion because they caught how one's lipstick smudged further than it should on the upper lip. I want them to wonder whether that lipstick smudge makes them fonder of the person or irritated by them. Those details, when you notice them are enhancers and one way or the other, you cannot feel neutrally about them.
